Opera Guccini is a concert-show that reimagines Francesco Guccini’s best-loved songs in an operatic and symphonic key. On stage, the songwriter’s pieces are played by a symphony orchestra and entrusted to operatic voices, accompanied by guitar and saxophone. The original compositions — written for voice and guitar — are recast in new orchestral arrangements that bring out their lyricism and melodic structure, leaving the lyrics untouched.
The songs alternate with spoken interludes: anecdotes, episodes and stories about how the songs came to be, told by those who shared Guccini’s songwriting years with him for a long time. Among the readings is an unpublished text that the author himself chose to dedicate to the project.
The evening is meant as much for those who know Guccini’s repertoire by heart as for those who want to rediscover it in a new form, through the language of the symphony orchestra and operatic singing.
