To be a star when the caliente rhythm of Spain beats in your heart. This is SER, by and with the Madrid star Sergio Bernal. A fully rounded fresco of Iberian culture through its dances, ranging from classical ballet to contemporary dance. It is indeed hard to assign Bernal to a single genre. This restless star, born in 1990, danced for many years with the Ballet Nacional de España — the prestigious treasury that preserves the country’s various dance traditions, and where he became Primer bailarín — before leaving to start new projects and found, in January 2020, the company that bears his name. Able to excel both in classical ballet and in Spanish dance, from the most aristocratic forms such as the Escuela Bolera to the most popular, like the flamenco born among the Roma, and on into the contemporary, Bernal is recognised as a star among stars. On the stage of the Nouveau he presents SER — «to be» in Spanish — a show in which he reveals his own essence with the live music of the Orquesta Cruz Diez, where the voice of Antón stands out, along with that of the cantora Paz de Manuel, the guitar of Daniel Jurado and the percussion of Javier Valdunciel.
Accompanying him on this fascinating, intimate journey, to choreographies signed by himself together with Ricardo Cue, Carlos Romero and José Manuel Álvarez, are two Spanish dancers, Cristina Cazorla and Carlos Romero, and Ana Sophia Scheller, formerly Principal dancer of New York City Ballet and San Francisco Ballet.
