A captivating contemporary triple bill opens the 2025 Dance Season of Teatro Comunale di Bologna explosively. It is brought to the stage by Aterballetto, the Italian contemporary dance company and flagship of dance in this country, a bridge between home-grown creativity and the great international names of contemporary dance. Founded in 1977 as the first permanent dance company in Italy outside the opera foundations, and recognised in 2022 by the Ministry of Culture as the only National Choreographic Centre, based in Reggio Emilia, Aterballetto has a glorious history which, starting from the firmest foundations of classical ballet, welcomes into the bodies of its superb professional dancers many different languages of modern and contemporary dance. On the stage of the Teatro Nouveau in Bologna we will see the Reggio company give a contemporary triple bill composed for the occasion, including two pieces co-produced by Teatro Comunale di Bologna itself: Solo Echo by the celebrated international choreographer Crystal Pite, given here in its Italian première and inspired both by two sonatas for cello and piano by Johannes Brahms and by the poetry of Mark Strand; and Glory Hall by the Brescia-born choreographer Diego Tortelli, a new contemporary creation in its world première, to the post-rock sounds of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The programme is completed by a refined cameo, Reconciliatio by the French-Albanian choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, a female duet to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, inspired by the Apocalypse, which paints in impressionist tones a mystical reconciliation between ethereal figures of the art of dance.
