Information

A homage to Maurice Ravel, a composer so bound up with the world of dance, on the hundred and fiftieth anniversary of his birth (1875 – 2025). Boléro – Ravel is the title of the new production on the French master’s music, conceived by the Roman producer Daniele Cipriani and entrusted to the skilled hands of the choreographers Sasha Riva and Simone Repele, a creative tandem born of shared studies at John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet and now based in Geneva. Nicknamed the «poets of dance» for the delicate, elegant poetry they manage to pour into every single movement and gesture of the body, Riva & Repele shape here a kind of choreographed artistic biography, freely retracing the main stages of Ravel’s life, animated by encounters with iconic figures of the art of Terpsichore such as Serge Diaghilev, Vaslav Nijinsky and Ida Rubinstein, and at the same time savouring his most famous compositions.

So the 2025 Dance Season of Teatro Comunale di Bologna is sealed, celebrating legacies that are still alive and still able to inspire.
