Information

The Ring of the Nibelung, second day. Brünnhilde still sleeps behind a wall of fire. Meanwhile the son of the forbidden union between Siegmund and Sieglinde, whom the Valkyrie had protected — Siegfried — grows up strong, innocent, a stranger to fear. Like the heroes of fairy tales he sets out on his adventure: he forges anew Nothung, his father’s shattered sword, kills the dragon, seizes its magic treasures and, tasting its blood, gains the power to understand the song of the birds. So he learns of the mysterious sleeping beauty, and in waking her comes to know, through love, what fear is. A new age opens, that of Brünnhilde and Siegfried. Those who set the events of the Ring in motion are powerless: the young hero kills Fafner, one of the giants who built Valhalla, now turned into a dragon, and the dwarf Mime; he prevents Alberich from recovering his power; he shatters the spear of Wotan, who, in the guise of a Wanderer, willingly accepts the end that is coming.
